Biography

Tsai-Ju Lee began her operatic conducting during her Master’s studies in conducting at the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig (HMT Leipzig), where she was involved as both pianist and conductor in several productions, including La Bohème, A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Benjamin Britten), Dichterliebe (Christian Jost), and The Lighthouse (Peter Maxwell Davies).

To further develop her skills in music theatre, she joined Theater Magdeburg in 2021 as a répétiteur and choral assistant with conducting obligation. In this position, she has been engaged in musical preparation for numerous opera productions, including Turandot, Carmen, and Eugene Onegin. She has led the chorus in productions such as Peter Grimes, The Gypsy Baron, and The Magic Flute. Her repertoire spans Baroque, Classical, and Romantic works, as well as operetta and musical theatre.

She has a particular interest in modern and experimental opera, as well as in formats that involve audience interaction. In this context, she has served as musical director of the children’s operas Laika and Die unbedingten Dinge.

Alongside her work at the theatre, Tsai-Ju Lee is dedicated to introducing opera to a wider audience. She has created projects presented in unconventional venues and has conducted Rusalka, Carmen, Don Giovanni, and Die Walküre – Mini as part of these initiatives.

Her orchestral conducting experience has led her to work with ensembles such as the Leipziger Sinfonieorchester, Savaria Symphoniker, Nordböhmische Philharmonie, and the Pilsen Philharmonic Orchestra. Tsai-Ju Lee has participated in masterclasses with renowned conductors including Daniele Gatti, Ulrich Windfuhr, and Norbert Baxa, which have further shaped her artistic development..
